Meet our Medical Director

Andréa Minella

DVM, PhD, DACVO

Dr. Andréa Minella received her bachelor degree, veterinary medical degree, and a PhD in comparative medicine from Michigan State University. During her PhD, Dr. Minella studied inherited retinal diseases in cats, and novel treatment strategies such as gene therapy and genome editing. Following completion of her dissertation, Dr. Minella completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the University of Wisconsin followed by a comparative ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Davis. During this time she trained alongside both veterinary and physician ophthalmologists in cataract surgery techniques, and expanded her research experience to include corneal disease and healing. These experiences allowed Dr. Minella to become a well-rounded ophthalmologist who recognizes the importance of utilizing both medical ophthalmology and surgical ophthalmology to develop the best plan for each individual patient.

As a clinician with a strong research background, Dr. Minella also recognizes the importance of staying current on the latest science and practicing evidence-based medicine to ensure a high level of care for her patients. She moreover believes strongly in a team approach to patient care. Her goal for each appointment is to ensure that pet owners’ concerns are heard and their role as a team member in their pet’s medical care is empowered.

Before launching VEC CT, Dr. Minella served as an ophthalmologist and the Medical Director at Veterinary Eye Center’s Queens location. She is excited to bring VEC’s advanced level care to the Greenwich area. A native of Long Island, in her spare time Dr. Minella loves a day on the sound, a night enjoying the arts, or spending time with her two cats - Fred and Apollo, Shih Tzu mix Millie, husband Jake, family, and friends.
