Milly, a five-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, has always been an energetic, athletic pup who loved to run. But one fall day, a fun outing at the park took a frightening turn when something sharp punctured her eye. The injury went deep, through her cornea, into her eye, and into her lens, causing bleeding, severe inflammation, and infection.
Although her cornea and the initial trauma began to heal, Milly developed a dangerous complication called Septic Implantation Syndrome. This occurs when bacteria are implanted into the lens, which has no blood vessels to fight infection. Left untreated, it carries a high risk of uncontrollable infection and blindness.
With the dedication of her family and the expertise of Dr. Andréa Minella, Milly received intensive treatment. Her care included topical and oral medications, antibiotic injections into the eye, and ultimately, urgent cataract surgery to remove the infected lens and replace it with an artificial one.
Thanks to this treatment, Milly not only recovered but regained vision and comfort in her eye. Today she is back to running miles in the park every day with her dad, happy and thriving. Her dad shares that Dr. Minella’s “professionalism and kindness is unmatched for human or canine doctors.”
We are thrilled to see Milly doing so well and living her life to the fullest!
